I am currently a consultant, Interventional radiology at AIG hospitals, Hyderabad, with special interest in neuro-interventions.
My entire medical training was from MBBS to Super-specialization has been in institutions of national importance viz., JIPMER, AIIMS New Delhi and NIMHANS.
I served as assistant professor of radiology at AIIMS Mangalagiri, between July 2021 and February 2023, where we established non-vascular interventional services for the first time in the institute.
Later, I joined AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad and have been working here between March 2023 to present. Here, I m part of a comprehensive interventional radiology department, performing/assisting a wide range of procedures including, but not limited to gastro-intestinal and abdominal bleeds, interventional oncology, biliary interventions, endovascular management of peripheral vascular disease, endovascular management of hemoptysis, endovascular management of Budd Chiari syndrome.
I established neuro-interventional services in this hospital for the first time since its inception. We executed a comprehensive stroke program, in which we performed 27 successful thrombectomies with 93% recanalization rates and 48% independent functional outcomes, on par with international standards.
While mechanical thrombectomy is an emergency procedure, I also do elective procedures for secondary stroke prevention in at risk population. These include carotid stenting and stenting for intracranial atherosclerotic disease.
In addition, I also treat a wide spectrum of diseases related to haemorrhagic stroke including intracranial aneurysms (through coiling, stent assisted coiling and flow diversion), AVMs and dural AV fistulas, direct and indirect carotico-cavernous fistulas.
In neuro-oncology, tumour embolisations for head and neck paragangliomas, meningiomas and choroid plexus tumours help reduce intra-operative blood loss.
Middle meningeal artery embolisations for chronic subdural hematomas and venous stenting for Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) are emerging neurovascular therapies which we started offering with good results in recent times.
Spontaneous resolution of chronic SDH with MMA embolization, circumventing burr hole evacuation.
While I m currently diagnosing and treating a complete spectrum of neuro-intervention cases, my research and academic interests specifically lie in vascular malformations of the brain and spine
I am also actively involved in teaching and mentoring many undergraduates and post graduate students of radiology and interventional radiology.
I served as faculty in few recent national and state conferences (Talks on stroke and DAVFs in the ISVIR masterclass series, on radial neurointerventions in ISNR, on recurrent wide necked bifurcation aneurysms in WBNA CME at SRMC, Chennai).
I have about 20 national and international publications and 3 chapters in national books. My research profile can be found at the following locations.
MBBS, MD, DM
Neuro-Imaging – Perfusion Weighted Imaging, Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping
Interventional Neuro-Radiology – Determinants of outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke, mechanistic underpinnings of flow diversion in giant aneurysms, angio-architectural variations of vascular malformations of the brain and spine and their implications for management.
